Troubleshoot Microphone Issues

About: If you are getting an error in Google Meet or other video conference apps - or if no one can hear you when you talk on video calls, try the steps below

Pro Tip: On most laptop models you can press the F4 key (or FN + F4 if function lock is off) to mute or unmute your microphone. Try this first and if your issue is not resolved, try the steps below.



Open your computers sound settings

  1. Right click the volume icon in your computers system tray near the clock at the bottom right corner.
  2. Click Open Sound settings.


Under the Input section click Device properties



Click Additional device properties



If you see a red circle over this icon, your microphone is muted - click to unmute





Test to see if your issue is resolved
