Sign out and sign back in to Google Drive for Desktop

About: If you notice discrepancies between a folder on drive.google.com in your web browser and a folder in your G: drive; or if opening files via the G: drive is taking a long time - signing out and back in to Google Drive for Desktop (previously called Drive File Stream) typically resolves this type of issue.

Find the Google Drive icon in the system tray

The system tray is located in the bottom right corner of Windows - near the clock. Look for the Google Drive icon. You may need to click the UP arrow to reveal more icons.

Open Google Drive preferences

  1. Click the Google Drive icon.
  2. Click the Gear icon.
  3. Click Preferences.

Disconnect your account

In the Preferences window, click the Gear icon at the top right, then click Disconnect Account, then click Disconnect.

Sign back in to Google Drive for Desktop

Click the Google Drive icon again, then click Sign in. A Chrome tab will open, click on your HHM Google Account, then click Sign in.

See if your issue is resolved.

After signing out and signing back in to Google Drive for Desktop:
  1. Your folders in the G: drive should match what you see drive.google.com.
  2. Performance issues should be resolved.
