Set Google Authenticator as your default 2nd Step

About: Before proceeding, make sure you have turned on 2 Step Verification for your Google account first. If you are tired of typing in security codes sent to you by SMS text message, consider using Google Authentication as your 2nd step instead of SMS text message.


Open your 2 Step Verification Settings

  1. Open your Google Account Settings by going to https://myaccount.google.com/
  2. Click Security.
  3. Click 2 Step Verification.


At the bottom of this page, click Set up next to Authenticator app



Select Android or iPhone then click next


Install the Google Authenticator app on your phone


Scan the barcode on your screen with the Google Authenticator app

  1. Open the Google Authenticator app that you just installed.
  2. Tap Scan barcode and aim your phone at your computer screen.



You will see your account listed in Google Authenticator

You will use the code that is generated every minute as your 2nd step when logging in to your Google Account.
